Parker Solar Probe: Touching the Sun

What Is Parker Solar Probe?

Parker solar probe is one of the dare-full Space mission that NASA has taken till now. The solar probe will swing around the sun within 4 million miles of its surface, the distance looks greater, but from the point of view of sun it's very close and will be the nearest distance that we have reached till now. Facing the heat and radiation, the probe will collect the data of the corona around the sun and send it to us for understanding the science of sun more deeply.

What is it's Mission?

The Parker solar probe will be the only one, who has reached to close to the sun, it will collect the necessary statistical data of sun's surrounding.

The three main objective of this mission is:
  • Trace the flow of energy that heats and accelerates the solar corona and solar wind.
  • Determine the structure and dynamics of the plasma and magnetic fields at the sources of the solar wind.
  • Explore mechanisms that accelerate and transport energetic particles.

The launch, budget and Journey:

It was launched in 12 August 2018, by aircraft designed by Johns Hopkins University Applied
Physics Laboratory, and  was the first spacecraft which is named after a living person, honoring physicist Eugene Parker. The spacecraft will be revolving around the sun by the year 2025 by travelling with the speed of 690,000 km/h which is 0.064% of the light speed.

The budget of the whole mission was around US$ 1.5 billion. The probe has around 1.1 million card having over name of peoples. The card also contains the photos and important aspect of solar physics.
